Finding the just the right piece of bluestone involves hours of searching at Colonial Stoneyard in Groton Massachusetts. The owners here let me pick through the stones until I find the piece that best fits the bench or table I’m creating. I look for shape, color and exactly the right topography when I’m choosing the stone.
Next they cut the bluestone to my specifications. This is done with a diamond saw and a lot of effort. Finally the newly cut edges are soaked in water and blowtorched to create a weathered look that matches the rest of the stone. This process takes the better part of a day, but the results are worth every minute. These guys are craftsmen and work hard to make my vision a reality.
